3 Tips on How Crossfit Newbies Can Overcome Intimidation and Build Confidence
The first time I tried a CrossFit class, I was so intimidated by the workout, people, and community I didn’t come back for 6 months. This is coming from a guy who had been lifting consistently for 5 years prior. Fast forward to today and I’m a CrossFit Games Quarterfinalist, go to the gym 6 times a week, and will be starting coaching soon.
CrossFit gyms can be intimidating. But that’s not a reason to never give one a try. Once you get over the hump of that initial scariness, you’ll fall in love with CrossFit just like 1,000s of others have in the past.
Here are 3 ways to overcome your fear of CrossFit:
1 — Swallow your pride: Whether you are brand new to working out, or you have been working out consistently for five years, CrossFit is going to be challenging. But it’s meant to be that way. Just understand that, and keep at it. The progress is what makes the sport so addicting.
2 — Use your coaches: The job of a CrossFit coach is not only to lead the class but also to help you learn the movements. There should never be a time in class when you don’t know what you are doing. If you find yourself lost, speak up and ask your coaches. It’s their job. They’ll be able to help you.
3 — Be social: The best part of joining a CrossFit gym is the community. Befriending other gym members makes CrossFit less intimidating. All members have been in your shoes once before.
CrossFit is the greatest workout program in the world. But many people are intimidated by it. Use these three tips if you are just getting started or are a newbie.
