Before moving forward with app startup Napkn, I had to make sure that it would be something people would use. Using a market research strategy I crafted on my own, I was able to receive feedback from 80 people and confirmed that 95% of those polled would use it. I validated my idea in 2 days, with minimal effort, and for the low cost of $0. The way I did this was unique, and I highly recommend you use it for your next great idea.
1-Make a video
Make a video of you describing the product; focus on what you will create and how it will add value to your potential customers.
2-Create hype
Let everyone know you have a good idea! I did this by sharing a generic post on social media. Mine was something like “Hi everyone, I have a great idea for a mobile application and I am looking for 100 people to watch a brief video I created describing the functionality of the app, and then let me know what you think.”
3-Make a form
Create a google form to gather the names and emails of anyone who is interested in giving you feedback on your idea, and share it with the post you sent out above. Wait a day or two to build a substantial list of people.
4-Share your idea
If you are nervous about people taking your idea, you can vet whom you share your video with, but I highly recommend sending it out to everyone who signed up! Any form of feedback is valuable, and sharing your idea with people will get them excited and will increase the likelihood they will give you feedback.
5-Get feedback
Create a google form with questions to gather feedback, and stick it in the description of your video. At the end of your video, refer to feedback form and express how thankful you are that they took the time to hear about your idea.
That’s it! This market research method it quite valuable. By sharing a video of yourself, it lets people know you care about your idea enough to put your face on it. Even though your idea may be a bust, you had the courage to share it with the world.
