Quote on leaving a legacy
Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.
- Benjamin Franklin
You get one chance at this life.
Why not create (or do) something remarkable?
Lesson learned from Pre-Cana
A few months ago Rachael and I attended Pre-Cana — a two day course for those getting married in the Catholic Church to learn lessons and best practices for a loving and fulfilling marriage.
I’m not sure how other Pre-Canas work, but ours was a split between:
Lectures from couples on topics like conflict resolution, personal finance, sexual intimacy (yes, sex)
And exercises that you’d do with your partner — like writing down what you want you want your relationship with your kids to be like when they are 7, 12, 21, and 40.
Rachael and I had a lot of this stuff figured out — especially the finances portion — HOWEVER, we still learned a ton. We left with a laundry list of things we wanted to implement in our future marriage.
But one thing particularly stuck with me…
It’s never about you. It’s always about god and your partner.
Sounds pretty straightforward, but this was really enlightening for me. In a world trying to sell us on optimizing everything — finances, health, career — it’s so easy to forget about the things that matter most: God and your spouse.
I feel like if you put these things first always, you can’t not live a fulfilling life.
Tip for staying on top of your diet during holiday times
Memorial Day and the Fourth of July are coming up. You know what that means? Holiday parties with lots of tempting appetizers, snacks, and drinks.
If you’re like me, you’re an absolute fiend for a good holiday cocktail hour spread… You know what I’m talking about…
Charcuterie boards, pigs in a blanket, chips…
So, so good. And so so easy to overeat!
So, a few months ago, I created a rule for myself to keep these cravings in check. Because I found that everytime I overdid the appetizers I:
Felt like garbage — because a lot of that junk is high in fat, and packed with seed oils
(More importantly) didn’t have enough room for the good stuff
So here’s the rule:
Whenever you are at a party with a bunch of appetizers, you’re only allowed to indulge if:
You understand EXACTLY what the food is made of: Is it organic? Does it contain seed oils? Basically, you just gotta sus out if it’s processed garbage or not.
If it’s something you’ve absolutely never tried before. Listen. This rule isn’t supposed to ruin appetizers for you. If you’ve never tried something, then try it!
This rule has helped me prevent overeating (and eating junk) at parties, which has made me feel 100x better.
So, if you find yourself overeating during holiday times — especially during appetizer time — give this a whirl.
