Playing Life Like Monopoly
“Own one mortgage-free rental property for each of your children.”
I’m not sure where I first heard this advice, but it’s stuck with me. And now it is becoming more relevant as:
One, I’m getting married in October (so kids are on the horizon).
Two, I’m coming up on two years of my Live-In Flip Investment (or possibly a BRRRR).

Challenging Conventional Wisdom on Protein Consumption
Traditional advice on protein consumption says “20-30 grams of protein per meal is the sweet spot. Anything over that, and your body won’t absorb it.”
Well, a recent study indicates that that might not be true…
Turns out your body can absorb more than 20-30 grams of protein per meal, but the choice of protein matters — aka whether you are eating “fast proteins” or “slow proteins”.
Fast proteins are digested and used within 1-2 hours:
Whey Protein
Slow proteins are digested and used over 4+ hours:
Milk, Cream, Cheese
Chicken
Steak
Eggs
From the study, the data indicated that:
Slowing protein absorption can increase the maximum potential for protein utilization from a single meal by distributing the effects of that meal across a longer range of time.
So if you’re getting most of your protein from fast proteins, it probably makes sense to spread that out in 20-30 gram chunks over the day.
But if you’re getting most of your protein from slow proteins, then you shouldn’t feel guilty about crushing a meal with 60 grams of protein.
The Unbundling of Upwork
Around 2010, we experienced the unbundling of Craigslist.
In other words…
Marketplaces offered through Craiglist started to be offered through more niche companies.
For example, you could order a car service through Craigslist, but then came Uber who made ordering a car service 10x better.
Today, we’re seeing the unbundling of Upwork.
In other words…
Services that were offered through Upwork are now being offered by more niche companies.
For example, you could hire a designer through Upwork, but then came 99designs who made working with designers 10x better.
Austin’s Recommendations
There’s nothing I nerd out on more than personal finance. Okay, maybe CrossFit… But I love jamming on personal finance too.
If you’re semi-interested in personal finance, you’ve heard of Mint—Intuit’s budgeting app they recently decided to shut down, which left me scrambling to find a new app!
Luckily, my boss is a huuuge personal finance guy and recommended I check out Monarch Money. So I used it for a month and fell in love with it. They make it super easy to categorize transactions and track your net worth.
I actually like it better than Mint.
If you want to try it out, Monarch is offering a free 30 day trial. Grab it below and let me know what you think.
